ABOUT
The World Military Lifesaving Sports Championship is an international event that brings together military athletes from around the world to compete in swimming, water rescue, sea relays, and other aquatic and coastal disciplines.
This competition will take place from May 17 to 25 in the cities of Montpellier and Grau-du-Roi and will highlight the excellence of military athletes, but also as objectives to:
promote cultural and sporting exchanges;
strengthen links between the different army corps
promote sportsmanship and camaraderie among armed forces around the world
This event is organized by the National Defense Sports Center (CNSD), under the aegis of the International Military Sports Council (CISM).
THE CENTRE NATIONAL DES SPORTS DE LA DEFENSE (CNSD)
Heir to a sporting and glorious military past, the Centre National des Sports de la Défense (CNSD) was created on January 1, 2006. Located in Fontainebleau, at Camp Guynemer, it includes two expert training courses in the field of physical training. military and sports (EPMS): the École Interarmées des Sports (EIS) and the École Militaire d'Équitation
(EME). The CNSD implements the policy of the Ministry of the Armed Forces in terms of military and sports physical training and military sport, reconstruction and reintegration of injured soldiers and support for high-level French sport.
The CNSD is notably the actor of the new sports policy through its various actions which are:

Military and sports training, the basis of the individual and collective operational preparation of the armies.

Reconstruction through sport, an essential step in the injured soldier's reintegration journey.

Sports practice for all, a tool for cohesion within the forces.

THE INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF MILITARY SPORT (CISM)
The CISM is a French initiative, an adventure desired by a French battalion commander, CBA DEBRUS , who had the idea, after the Second World War, of bringing together armies not on the battlefields but on sports fields.
Five countries (France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Netherlands, Denmark) decided to make this idea a reality by laying the foundations of this council on February 10, 1948 in Nice, giving it the motto: “Friendship through sport” . Today, 140 countries meet each year in multiple continental or global competitions and at the Military World Games every four years, one year before the Summer and Winter Olympic Games. He is, in a way, the military CIO.
CISM is the only organization in the world that can bring together several thousand soldiers in the same place to play sports. CISM is a hope for friendship and peace between peoples, it is understanding and respect for differences, it is the mutual knowledge of men and women experienced in the things of war who, for one time, compete in a single spirit of sporting competition where respect for the opponent and the universal values of sport reign.

A WORD FROM THE GENERAL
La France s’est portée candidate auprès du Conseil international du sport militaire (CISM) à l’organisation du 12e championnat du monde militaire de sauvetage sportif du 17 au 25 mai 2024. Les villes de Montpellier, Palavas-les-Flots et Le Grau-du-Roi accueilleront cet événement d’envergure mondiale organisé par les armées françaises, en partenariat avec la fédération française de sauvetage sportif (FFSS).
125 athlètes représentant 11 nations de 3 continents s’affronteront sous le signe de « l’amitié par le sport », devise du CISM.
Je tiens à remercier les municipalités et les élus qui s’engagent et se mobilisent pour l’organisation de ce championnat, mais aussi le 503e régiment du Train de Nîmes, au côté du Centre national des sports de la Défense, la fédération française de sauvetage sportif et l’ensemble des bénévoles qui contribuent au rayonnement du sport militaire en France et à l’international.
Cette compétition revêt une importance particulière. Parce que la discipline du sauvetage sportif est proche des fondamentaux du militaire. Elle exige courage et sang-froid, mais au-delà, elle exprime le don de soi. Parce que l’équipe de France militaire, composée de 6 hommes et 6 femmes des trois armées et de la gendarmerie nationale, sacrée en 2022 aux Pays-Bas pour sa première participation, remettra son titre en jeu en cette année olympique ! Ce rendez-vous promet d’être passionnant.
Parce que le programme de ce championnat prévoit la participation des militaires blessés aux épreuves qui leur sont dédiées et propose des séquences de sensibilisation au secourisme au profit des jeunes élèves d’écoles locales. La reconstruction de nos blessés et le lien Armée-Nation par le sport font partie des efforts de notre ministère : ils trouvent naturellement leur place dans cet événement des armées.
Parce qu’enfin, cette compétition se caractérise par la diversité de ses épreuves et met en exergue le niveau d’exigence et de performance de l’ensemble des athlètes dont je sais pouvoir obtenir le meilleur en termes d’engagement et d’exemplarité.
A tous je souhaite un excellent séjour dans cette belle région de France. Vous aurez l’occasion de la découvrir lors des activités qui vous sont réservées, qui font la part belle à l’histoire et la culture. Excellente compétition à tous les athlètes.

The World Military Lifesaving Sport Championship brings together an impressive range of nations, representing the diversity and sporting excellence of three different continents.
Among the 13 nations involved are traditional sporting powers such as Germany , Canada and Italy, China , Iran and Kuwait .
Europe is strongly represented with nations such as Spain , France , Finland , the Netherlands , Poland and Switzerland , each bringing their own sporting heritage and determination to achieve excellence.
Brazil adds its distinctive mark to this global competition. This diversity of nations creates an exciting competitive environment, where camaraderie and rivalry intertwine in a spirit of high-level international competition.
